Committee accepts Trust for Public Land in‑kind grant to renovate Sergeant John McCauley playground

The Budget and Finance Committee heard a request from Recreation & Park staff to retroactively accept an in‑kind grant of up to $500,000 from the Trust for Public Land to support project management, design and community engagement for the Sergeant John McCauley children's playground renovation.
Abigail Mayer of Recreation & Park explained the project is part of the Let's Play SF initiative to renovate 13 playgrounds prioritized by a citizen task force. The Trust for Public Land previously supported nearby projects and will provide design and project management resources for Macaulay, which serves a dense neighborhood in District 6.
Philip Vitale of the Trust for Public Land said the organization expects the renovation to serve thousands of nearby residents and emphasized community stewardship and engagement through design and construction.
Supervisor Stephanie moved the item to the full board with a positive recommendation; the committee approved without objection.
