Committee backs AT&T license at Zuckerberg San Francisco General with rent waiver while part of hospital DAS

The Budget and Finance Committee on Feb. 1 moved forward with a positive recommendation for a five-year license that permits AT&T Mobility to install cabling and a rack in the equipment room at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Building 25.
John Updike, representing the Department of Real Estate, described the arrangement as part of the hospital’s distributed antenna system (DAS), which will use a central hub to improve cellular service for staff, patients and visitors. "So this fourth item on that list is with AT and T to allow them to provide enhanced cellular service within the new hospital," Updike told the committee.
The license carries a $5,000-per-month base rent with a 3 percent annual inflator, Updike said, but the fee is waived while AT&T participates in the DAS and limits service to the building; electricity and modest utility costs remain the city’s responsibility. The Budget Analyst confirmed the rent-waiver approach is typical for similar licenses and recommended approval.
Supervisor Feuer moved to send the resolution to the full board with a positive recommendation; the committee approved without objection.
The full board will consider the license and any contractual language before any installation or revenue changes are finalized.
