Committee recommends designation of Macauley adolescent behavioral health unit as evacuation and treatment facility

Max Rocha, deputy director for the children, youth and families system of care at the Department of Public Health, presented a resolution to designate the Macauley adolescent behavioral health unit as an evacuation and treatment facility for minors and to authorize the director to enter a designation agreement with Dignity Health.
Rocha described the unit's role in providing specialty mental health services for youth up to age 21 and said the designation agreement would permit the city to hold youth in need of psychiatric care up to 72 hours for initial assessment and evaluation and up to two weeks for treatment under the terms of the agreement.
There were no public speakers on the item. A committee member moved to send the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the motion passed by voice vote with no objection.
The resolution will proceed to the Board of Supervisors for final approval and execution of the designation agreement as authorized.
