Committee OKs referral to Board for $100,000 CalHive behavioral‑health grant

Supervisor Hillary Ronan, chair of the Homelessness and Behavioral Health Select Committee, moved Oct. 13 to forward a resolution authorizing the Department of Public Health to accept a $100,000 grant from the Purchaser Business Group on Health for participation in the CalHive Behavioral Health Integration Improvement Collaborative.
Rachel Klee of the Department of Public Health described CalHive as “a 36‑month program… focused on the integration of behavioral health services into primary care,” saying it aims to expand screening, treatment and referrals for mild‑to‑moderate conditions including depression and substance use disorders. Klee told the committee the collaborative is hosted by the California Quality Collaborative and that the city’s participating provider organization serves about 650,000 members.
No members of the public spoke on the item. The committee voted unanimously to send the resolution to the full Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation.
The grant period listed in the resolution is July 1, 2023, through Jan. 31, 2027. The committee recorded that the item will appear on the Oct. 24 Board agenda.
