Chair Supervisor Dean Preston moved and the committee referred a motion directing the Budget & Legislative Analyst (BLA) to perform two audits in fiscal year 2021–22.
The first audit would review the Office of Economic & Workforce Development’s economic development programs, including community grants and small‑business supports, and coordination with the Office of Small Business. The audit will examine program design, performance metrics, fund flows during the pandemic, and transparency of results.
The second audit will examine affordable‑housing funds administered by the Mayor’s Office of Housing & Community Development: sources and allowable uses, ten‑year fund allocations and balances, and the planning/decision‑making processes that govern disbursements.
Budget Analyst Sevin Campbell told the committee the office has capacity to begin the audits after adoption and aims for completion by late 2021, subject to staff availability. The committee voted to refer the motion with recommendation to the full Board.
