Committee advances $137,000 Mac AIDS Foundation grant to sustain HIV care navigators

Dr. Darpun Sachdev of the Department of Public Health said the Mac AIDS Foundation funding allowed the city to place navigators at three clinics (Ward 86, Tom Waddell Health Center and Castro Mission) and that the program “successfully relinked 180 people in just the first year.” He said the Mac AIDS grant covers the navigator work directly, while separate city funding previously allocated for Getting to 0 ($3,000,000 discussed in the transcript) targeted PrEP uptake and other services and did not directly fund this navigator program.
Sachdev said this Mac AIDS grant is the second and final year of that specific funding stream and staff are exploring other grants and internal realignment to continue navigator services. No members of the public spoke on the item. The committee took the motion to forward the resolution with a positive recommendation without objection.
