The San Francisco Budget and Finance Committee on an uncontested voice vote forwarded a resolution that would allow the Department of the Environment to accept and expend approximately $233,379 in state grant funds to increase used‑motor‑oil recycling and household hazardous‑waste management.
Guillermo Rodriguez, who identified himself as representing the Department of the Environment, told supervisors the grant would support the department’s outreach efforts and cited program results: “in 2015, San Francisco collected a total of 42,103 gallons of used oil from various collection points,” including 25 certified centers across the city. He urged supervisors to support the outreach work so residents do not pour oil into storm drains or discard it in the trash.
Supervisor Norman Yee asked the department to provide a list of certified collection centers; Rodriguez said the department has the list and will email it to the supervisor’s office. No members of the public spoke on the item.
Chair Supervisor Malia Cohen then took a motion to send the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the motion passed without objection. The full Board will consider final approval and any implementation details if the grant is accepted.
