Committee recommends San Francisco apply for roughly $16.7 million in Ryan White HIV/AIDS emergency funding

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee on Oct. 5 unanimously recommended that the Department of Public Health (DPH) apply for roughly $16.7 million in Ryan White HIV/AIDS Emergency Relief Program funding administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration for the March 1, 2017, through Feb. 28, 2018 funding year.
A DPH representative told the committee the request would support primary medical care and support services for HIV-positive clients in the City and County of San Francisco, including transitional and emergency housing, outreach and linkage services. "Just over $16,000,000 provide a variety of services to HIV positive clients in the city and county of San Francisco, including primary medical care and support services, such as transitional and emergency housing, outreach, linkage," the representative said.
The committee heard no public comment on the item. Supervisor Katie Tang moved to forward the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation; Supervisor Yee seconded the motion and it was approved without objection. Chair Mark Farrell noted items acted on at the committee will appear on the Board agenda on Oct. 18 unless otherwise stated.
The committee—s recommendation sends the authorization request to the full Board for final action and preserves the department—s ability to pursue federal formula and program funding that supports medical and supportive services for people living with HIV.
