Committee backs $1 acquisition of lot to assemble Block X for 72 affordable units

The Budget & Finance Committee on Sept. 7 recommended that the full Board approve acquisition of a 5,000-square-foot lot at 20 Fifth Street and Connecticut Street from the San Francisco Housing Authority for a purchase price of $1 to assemble with an adjacent 25,000-square-foot lot at 1101 Connecticut Street. Faith Kirkpatrick, project manager at the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, said the merged site (Block X) will enable construction of 72 affordable units under the Potrero HOPE SF revitalization plan, with 53 units to be made available for residents of the Potrero HOPE SF site.
Kirkpatrick noted the purchase will be made pursuant to an option agreement dated June 1, 2016; closing will occur 30 days after the Board approves exercising the option so the project can meet its financing and construction schedule, and staff hoped to close financing in the next couple of months. The site is currently vacant and requires no relocations. The committee heard no public comment and moved the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
