Budget committee opens public comment, continues items to Wednesday

The Budget & Finance Committee convened June 20 with Chair Mark Farrell presiding and supervisors Katie Tang, Jane Kim, Norman Yee and John Avalos present. The clerk read two items on the docket: the annual budget appropriation ordinance and the annual salary ordinance for FY 2016–17 and 2017–18. Chair Farrell explained the public‑comment procedures including prioritization for seniors, people with disabilities and parents of young children, and noted translators and overflow rooms were available.
Public comment occupied the bulk of the hearing. After an extended public‑comment period with dozens of speakers, including nonprofit leaders, service providers, seniors and youth organizers, the committee voted or agreed informally to continue the budget items to the Board—s regular meeting on Wednesday. The motion to continue was made by Supervisor Wiener and recorded as "without objection." The committee then adjourned.
