Audit committee continues ordinance on fee waivers for unpermitted dwelling units

Supervisor Gordon Marr, chair of the Government Audit and Oversight Committee, moved on May 7 to continue an ordinance that would amend the city—s planning and building codes to reauthorize a waiver of fees for existing dwelling units constructed without required permits and extend the waiver through Dec. 31, 2024. The ordinance also would require annual reports on the fee-waiver program and include findings cited under Planning Code sections 101.1 and 302.
Clerk John Carroll summarized the ordinance and said no members of the public called in to speak. Marr said he wanted more time to work on the ordinance—s reporting requirements to ensure the program aligns with broader housing-policy goals. On a motion by Chair Marr to continue the item to the call of the chair, the committee recorded ayes from Vice Chair Aaron Peskin and Supervisor Matt Haney; the motion carried unanimously.
The committee also moved that the file be duplicated and that the committee accept the amendments as presented; those procedural motions were approved by the committee. The ordinance will be brought back for further consideration and eventually appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda unless otherwise stated.
