Inner Sunset streetscape and Muni Forward upgrades celebrated after multimillion‑dollar project

City and neighborhood leaders gathered to mark the Inner Sunset Streetscape and Muni Forward improvements that span Irving Street from Arguello to 19th Avenue. Mohammed Nuru, director of Public Works, described upgrades including new sidewalks, curb ramps, upgraded traffic signals, bulb‑outs, sewer and water‑line work, and firefighting pipeline upgrades to increase system capacity and reliability.
Mayor London Breed thanked neighborhood volunteers and project partners, noting the project also included 'dig once' fiber conduit for future technology needs and interior upgrades to water infrastructure to improve firefighting pressure. "This community has really come together," the mayor said, praising merchants and residents for patience during construction.
Supervisor Valley Brown and the city administrator outlined additional neighborhood work including a pilot curb‑management program and continued community engagement. The project team reported roughly $21 million in investment and emphasized further work (such as undergrounding overhead wires) remains on the agenda.
The committee then returned from closed session and reported that closed‑session items 8–22 were recommended to the full Board for consideration; items 9 and 10 will be committee reports at the Sept. 24 Board meeting. The committee adjourned.
