The Government Audit & Oversight Committee heard a presentation and public comment on a resolution authorizing the mayor (or designee) to cast the City and County’s assessment ballots in favor of renewing and expanding the North of Market / Tenderloin Community Benefit District (CBD).
Chris Corgus of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development summarized the ballot process and noted the city’s first-year assessment obligation, should the CBD be renewed and expanded, would be approximately $67,094.43 (about 3.42% of the CBD’s first-year assessment budget). The legislation includes a parcel-level list of city-owned properties that would be assessed and a description of the district’s budget and services.
Speakers representing the Tenderloin CBD (executive director Simon Breitring) and Hastings Law School urged support, citing the CBD’s cleaning and safe-passage programs, public-safety camera partnerships, and neighborhood economic initiatives.
The committee voted to forward the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
