Committee forwards items 3–7 (settlements) to full Board following closed session
Summary
After a closed-session consideration of several settlement matters, the committee unanimously voted to forward items 3–7 to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the committee also voted not to disclose closed-session proceedings.
The Government Audit and Oversight Committee considered agenda items 3 through 7 in closed session on Oct. 18. The clerk announced the items were various ordinances and resolutions authorizing settlement of lawsuits and approving settlements of unlitigated claims against the City and County of San Francisco.
No members of the public spoke on the items before the committee convened in closed session. When the committee returned to open session, Deputy City Attorney John Givner reported the committee had voted unanimously to forward items 3 through 7 to the full Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation. Prior to that report the committee took a motion and approved, without opposition, not to disclose the proceedings from the closed session.
The committee did not read the settlement amounts or parties into the public record during open session; forwarding the items moves them to the full Board where they will be considered for final action.
