Budget committee continues Grants for the Arts hearing to April 15

The San Francisco County Budget and Finance Full Committee on Wednesday, April 8 continued a hearing on the Grants for the Arts program to April 15 after a motion by Supervisor Marr was accepted without objection. The continuance was requested so departments and community-based arts organizations would have more time to prepare for the review of whether the program meets the city’s goals on equitable access for cultural and arts organizations serving communities of color.

The clerk opened the item, saying: "Item number 1, hearing 2, examine whether the grants of the arts program is adequately meeting our city's goals of providing equitable access to resources to cultural and arts organization that serve communities of color." Supervisor Marr said the departments and arts organizations "need the time to prepare" and moved to continue the item to April 15. "So I move we continue this item until April 15," Marr said. The chair took the motion "without objection." The chair then asked whether any members of the public wished to speak on the item; "Seeing none, public comment is now closed," she said.

The committee did not hold a roll-call vote on the continuance; the motion was handled by unanimous consent and the item was formally continued to the next budget committee meeting. No formal amendments, funding figures, or further schedule changes were announced during the meeting, and no members of the public provided comment on the item.

The hearing on the Grants for the Arts program will resume on April 15, when departments and arts organizations are expected to present additional materials and testimony related to program equity and access. Any formal actions or vote tallies taken at that hearing will be recorded in the committee’s official minutes.
