Hearing on building standards in seismic zones continued to chair after sponsor absence; commenter cites PG&E vault

A hearing on existing building standards in seismic safety zones, which would have covered infill and waterfront neighborhoods, was continued to the call of the chair at the Government Audit and Oversight Committee meeting on April 18 after the item’s sponsor was unavailable.
Chair Jane Kim said the item would be continued. When opened for public comment, Brian Soper told the committee that after eight hearings he wanted to note an existing PG&E vault beneath the tower’s south side foundation. "There is an existing PG and E vault that is underneath the entire tower. It's on the south side of the foundation. So when this building started settling, the tower got hung up on this utility vault," Soper said.
With no other public comment, the committee closed public comment and continued the hearing to the call of the chair. No action or vote on building‑standards policy was taken at the meeting.
