Committee approves roughly $76,000 BSCC grant for public defender's juvenile unit

The Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee on Oct. 29 approved a resolution retroactively authorizing the San Francisco Public Defender's Office to accept and expand an approximately $76,000 grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections to support juvenile justice accountability measures for the term July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015.
Patricia Lee, managing attorney of the Public Defender's Office juvenile unit, said the funds have partially paid for an attorney position focused on reentry for youths returning from long-term out-of-home placements or the county camp. "This may be the very, very last funds that the BSCC will expend to us," Lee said, and she described the grant as part of a team effort to keep young people stabilized and in their homes.
There were no questions from supervisors and no public comment on the item. Chair Mark Farrell moved to approve the resolution; the committee took the motion without objection. The clerk announced that items acted on today will appear on the Board's Nov. 4 agenda unless otherwise stated.
The resolution authorizes the Public Defender's Office to accept and expand the Juvenile Accountability Lock Grant award; the motion record does not name a mover or seconder, and the committee approved the item by unanimous consent on Oct. 29, 2014.
