Board Member Says Chariot Drivers Voted to Join Teamsters After Neutrality Agreement

SAN FRANCISCO — Supervisor Asha Safai told the Government Accountability & Oversight Committee that a recently introduced resolution supporting organizing efforts by commuter shuttle workers had produced a negotiated outcome: Chariot and the Teamsters reached a neutrality agreement and the company’s drivers voted to join Teamsters Local 665.
"We got word yesterday that Chariot agreed to a card‑check neutrality process for their workers," Safai announced, and he welcomed the “215 Chariot drivers into the Teamsters Union,” thanking company leadership, the Teamsters and SFMTA for engaging at the bargaining table.
Doug Block of Teamsters Joint Council 7 said the negotiations opened a broader discussion about technology and the future of transportation jobs and praised Chariot for working with labor representatives. The supervisor asked to continue the item to the call of the chair so final regulatory language for jitney/commuter shuttle permits and labor harmony provisions can be completed.
Public comment supported the agreement and raised related concerns about MTA operations and service design. The committee agreed to continue the item for finalization.
