Yerba Buena Community Benefit District says it met benchmarks, highlights cleaning, events and grants

The Government Audit & Oversight Committee on April 5 received the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District (YBCBD) FY2015–16 annual report and recommended it to the full Board of Supervisors.

Chris Gorgas of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development outlined OEWD’s review and stated the Yerba Buena CBD met the benchmarks required by state law and the city's management agreement. YBCBD acting director Bridal Daniels (presenting for absent Executive Director Kathy Maupin) described program accomplishments: service areas of cleaning and streetscape improvement, safety and security, branding and activation, and management and operations. For FY2015–16 Daniels reported the district removed roughly 203,625 pounds of trash (reported elsewhere as more than 200,000 pounds), responded to tens of thousands of cleaning and quality-of-life service calls (OEWD cited 54,440 cleaning calls and nearly 16,000 quality-of-life incidents addressed by community guides), removed thousands of graffiti tags, assisted businesses and residents, installed 150 custom bike racks, and produced events such as Yerba Buena Night (attendance 10,000 in 2015). The management plan assessment budget was listed as $2,991,722.82 and the district comprises about 2,152 property owners across roughly 172 acres (Market to Perry and Second to Fifth Streets).

Chair Jane Kim and other supervisors praised the CBD’s work and requested continued coordination with SFMTA on planned crosswalk improvements and updates on Annie Plaza activations. No members of the public spoke on the item. Supervisor Kreskin moved to send the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the motion carried without opposition.

The committee's action forwarded the annual report and disposition to the Board of Supervisors.
