Land Use Committee backs naming Park Street corner for Sean Monterosa

The Land Use and Transportation Committee on March 18 voted to send a resolution to the Board of Supervisors recommending the commemorative naming of Park Street at Holly Park Circle as Sean Monterosa Boulevard.
Chair Supervisor Mirana Melgar moved the committee recommendation after a presentation from Jackie Prager on behalf of Supervisor Ronan and remarks by Sean Monterosa’s sisters, Ashley and Michelle Monterosa. Jackie Prager said the office "strongly support[s] the commemorative street naming in honor of Sean Monterosa" and noted community installations, including a KnowledgeUp community library and murals, that organizers say keep his memory alive.
Ashley Monterosa told the committee her family has sought ‘‘to present why we are doing this and what it means to our community,’’ describing Sean as a youth worker who mentored local young people. Multiple public commenters, including Nancy Abdul Shakur and organizers from Brown Issues, said the renaming would help the family and community heal and provide a lasting recognition of Sean’s contributions.
Chair Melgar’s motion to send the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation passed unanimously in the three-member committee vote (Preston, Peskin and Melgar recorded as "aye"). The committee clerk said items acted upon would appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda of March 26, 2024, unless otherwise stated.
The item will proceed to the full Board for final action; the committee’s recommendation does not by itself install the commemorative street name.
