Committee advances 30-year subsidy for 12 households displaced by Central Subway

The Government Audit & Oversight Committee on Oct. 20 recommended that the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development be authorized to execute a grant agreement with Broadway Sansom Associates LP to provide long-term rental subsidies for 12 households displaced by earlier Municipal Transportation Agency construction.
Joan McNamara, senior project manager at MOHCD, told the committee the proposed 30-year subsidy would allow the households to reside at Broadway Sansom Apartments and pay 30 percent of household income for rent while the MTA would cover the gap between the 30 percent contribution and full rent. McNamara said MTA had previously committed $8,000,000 toward permanent replacement units identified for displaced residents and that households would be annually certified; as incomes rise, the subsidy would be reduced.
“The total projected subsidy over 30 years, which is based on the household’s current incomes, is $1,192,320, or $39,744 per year,” McNamara said.
Committee staff and the chair noted the budget analyst recommended approval. With no public comment, the committee agreed to send the resolution to the full Board of Supervisors with a recommendation, without objection. The item will be placed on the Board agenda for its Nov. 1 meeting.
