Committee sends planned performance audit of city real estate division to full Board

The Government Audit and Oversight Committee directed staff to begin a 2016 performance audit of the city's real estate division and voted to forward the motion to the full Board. The Budget and Legislative Analyst said the audit will begin in July after current audits wrap up.
The committee considered a motion directing the Budget and Legislative Analyst to conduct a 2016 performance audit of the city's real estate division. Supervisor Aaron Peskin said he was a co-sponsor and that Supervisor Campos was the chief sponsor. Amanda Guma of the Budget and Legislative Analyst's office said the office will "look forward to starting this audit, in the beginning of the next fiscal year in July" and that the office was "still wrapping up the current audits on senior services and homeless services" and expected to finish them by the end of the month.
Supervisor London Breed emphasized oversight of the homeless-services audit (which she said she requested in December) and the need to track where more than $250,000,000 being spent on homeless services is going and whether it is effective. After brief discussion the committee moved the audit item to the full Board with recommendation; the committee recorded that motion as moved by Supervisor Breed and agreed to send it to the Board without objection.
The full Board will receive the audit referral and may schedule the performance audit and any hearings that arise from its findings.
