The Budget & Finance Subcommittee recommended that the full Board approve a resolution allowing the Port of San Francisco to accept and expand a Department of Homeland Security 2013 Port Security Grant of approximately $700,000 to fund an all‑hazards training series, exercises and high‑security fencing for port property for the period June 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015.
Elaine Forbes, port staff, told the committee the training typically centers near the Ferry Building and uses the Port’s waterfront property; the Port proposed using its offices at Pier 1 for command center operations and deploying resources across the seven and a half miles of waterfront. Budget analyst Mr. Rose noted a required Port match of $232,875 (25% of the $931,500 project) to come from previously appropriated port revenues and recommended approval.
After a brief public question about training location and safety concerns in Bayview Hunters Point, the committee moved to send the item forward to the full Board with recommendation.
