Katie Miller, director of policy in the District Attorney—s Office, said the DOJ grant emphasizes innovative strategies to address persistent crime hotspots. The first year is a planning year that will include intensive stakeholder engagement and the drafting of a detailed strategic plan for DOJ approval before subsequent years of funding are released.
Miller said the program has two core strategies: expand trauma-informed victim services in Bayview and increase neighborhood empowerment and engagement in public-safety approaches. The committee moved the item forward to the full Board with recommendation and no opposition.
