Land Use committee restores adult-entertainment buffer, adopts amendment and continues two items

At the Feb. 27 meeting, the Land Use and Transportation Committee approved an amendment to retain a 1,000-foot buffer in planning-code section 303 that prohibits adult-entertainment uses within 1,000 feet of another adult business and continued two items for further review.
Madison Tam, representing Supervisor Dorsey's office, told the committee that "the provision of section 3 0 3 that prohibits adult entertainment within a thousand feet of another was incorrectly stricken" and characterized that deletion as an administrative error. She said the buffer language would be restored.
After public comment, President Peskin moved to adopt the amendment and continue item 1 for two weeks. The committee voted 3-0 (Peskin, Preston, Melgar) to adopt the VEDSAM amendment and continue item 1 to March 13. Later, on item 3 (an ordinance to increase fines and penalties in the planning and building codes), the committee voted 3-0 to continue the item to next week's meeting at the request of staff and because amendments were not finalized.
The votes were procedural: the committee adopted an amendment to the planning code language and set follow-up dates for additional staff materials and transmittals before final Board consideration.
