Committee approves 3‑year AirTrain contract extension and $4.2M increase for Bombardier

Kathy Widener of the San Francisco Airport asked the committee to approve Amendment No. 1 to the Professional Services Agreement with Bombardier Transportation Holdings for operation and maintenance of the AirTrain. The amendment exercises the first three‑year option, extends the contract through February 2019, and increases the not‑to‑exceed amount by $4,200,000 to a new total of $98,700,000, citing operations, maintenance, staffing costs and a $3.2 million shortfall from the initial term.
Widener told the committee the shortfall was anticipated when the original agreement was approved in 2008 because of labor and material escalations and equipment replacement needs. The Budget Analyst’s Office (Mr. Rose) reviewed the numbers and recommended approval, noting the funding will come from the airport’s operating budget.
No public comment was offered on the item. A motion to move the resolution forward with recommendation was made and the committee approved it without opposition.
