Committee Approves Airport Donations for Terminal 3 Promotional Events

Kathy Weidner of the San Francisco Airport told the committee the fund, authorized by the committee and supported by a proposed ordinance, provides a mechanism to accept private donations over $100,000 only with Board approval. The donations before the committee — from Boeing, Hensel Phelps Construction and United Airlines — would support preview tours, an opening dinner and a large community open house on Jan. 25 expected to draw up to 10,000 attendees, along with printed materials, video and advertising tied to the Terminal 3 boarding-area opening.
Weidner said the fund is allowed under the city’s administrative code and that annual written reports of revenues and expenditures will be submitted to the Board of Supervisors and the budget analyst. No public comment was offered. The committee moved the item forward with a recommendation for Board approval.
