Supervisors amend and continue Human Services Agency security-contract modification to allow more time for successor award

The Human Services Agency requested committee approval of a retroactive contract modification to extend and increase a security services contract while staff complete a successor procurement.
Dave Curdo of the Human Services Agency said the successor contract has been out for bid and the department expects to make a tentative award soon but asked to extend the existing contract term to Jan. 31, 2014 to avoid a service lapse. The department sought a modified not-to-exceed increase of about $1.9 million to cover services through the extension period.
Budget analyst Mr. Rose reviewed the department's projection and recommended a smaller contingency (10 percent) than the department's 26.4 percent figure, which would reduce the needed increase to $1,623,960 (about $276,040 less than the requested $1.9 million). The committee amended the proposed resolution to extend the term to Jan. 31, 2014 and agreed to continue the item to the Dec. 4 meeting to finalize the financial amendment and contingency percentage.
Chair and the city attorney confirmed the amendment can be made and that the item should be revisited the following week with updated numbers. The committee did not take a final funding vote in this meeting; the item was continued for a later financial determination.
