Board committee advances $720,000 Friends of the Library package to support programs and services

The San Francisco Department of Public Library asked the Budget and Finance Committee on Nov. 13 to accept and expand $720,000 in in-kind gifts, services and cash from the Friends of the Library for direct support of public programs and services.
"They annually provide significant funding" for branch improvements and programs, City Librarian Luis Herrera said, noting last year the funded programs reached about 245,000 patrons. Supervisors praised Friends of the Library for supporting branch amenities and outreach in neighborhoods including Bayview and Richmond.
There was no public comment on the resolution, and the committee moved the item forward with a recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors.
Next steps: the full Board will consider final approval.
