Committee extends grace period for North Beach liquor store closed by fire

The Land Use & Transportation Committee on June 6 moved as a committee report an ordinance amending the planning code to extend the temporary closure protection for a liquor store in the North Beach Neighborhood Commercial District from three to six years following a fire.
Supervisor Eric Peskin said Planning Department staff recommended the extension to allow the nearby business to continue operating and to preserve the use while the business addresses fire-related closure. There was no public comment in the chamber or on the remote line for this item. Supervisors Peskin, Preston and Chair Melgar recorded 'aye' votes and the motion passed.
Next steps: the ordinance will be transmitted to the full Board as a committee report for consideration on the Board agenda.
