Committee approves release of reserved abutters’ rights at 725 Jamestown Avenue

The Land & Transportation Committee on March 21 voted to recommend approval of a resolution to abandon and release the City’s reserved abutters’ rights to allow curb cuts at 725 Jamestown Avenue, a step the sponsor said is necessary for the project to proceed.
Charles Sullivan of the City Attorney’s Office told the committee the reservation traces to the Candlestick Stadium era and that "the stadium is now gone and their purpose for which those reserved rights existed no longer exist," meaning the city can release the reservation to enable the approved project to move forward.
A remote caller identifying himself with Young Community Developers/Strata urged the committee to allow the "75 Jamestown" project to proceed into construction, describing an updated proposal for 121 for-sale townhomes with no building taller than 40 feet, 22 on-site affordable homes, and $2,000,000 in affordable housing fees dedicated to Bayview housing programs. The caller said the developer reached the design in response to community requests for homeownership and family-sized units.
A motion to recommend the item passed on a roll call of Peskin, Preston and Melgar voting "aye." Committee members did not record amendments to the resolution during the hearing; the clerk said items acted on would appear on the March 22 Board agenda for final action.
