Committee forwards Vita Bridal Club liquor-license application to full Board

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee on Dec. 14 voted to forward to the full Board of Supervisors a resolution recommending issuance of a Type 48 on-sale general public premises liquor license to VBC SF LLC, doing business as Vita Bridal Club, at 969 Market Street in District 6.

Supervisor Matt Dorsey, committee chair, moved that the clerk prepare a resolution making a determination that granting the license would serve the public convenience and necessity; the motion carried on a voice vote. The committee's clerk had introduced the item and the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) liaison unit presented a police and community notification (PCN) report.

The ABC liaison reported the location is in a Plot 210A area and Census Tract 167176.02, which the liaison characterized as a high-crime and high-concentration area. The liaison said there were no letters of protest or support on file and recommended approval with conditions, including that the petitioner actively monitor adjacent areas to prevent loitering, ensure no noise is audible beyond the premises (except as allowed under condition 2), and provide two uniformed, state-licensed security guards whenever the premises offer live entertainment.

Applicant counsel Nick Kolla told the committee the venue will operate as a cocktail lounge that doubles as an art gallery and that the managing member, Matthew Kimball, was present. "We are already amenable to all of the proposed license conditions and restrictions," Kolla said.

Chair Dorsey said he had heard positive feedback from constituents about the business and welcomed its contribution to mid-Market's recovery. With no public commenters on the item, the committee proceeded to vote to forward the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation.

The matter will be presented as a committee report to the Board of Supervisors on Dec. 17, 2024, for final consideration.
