Committee moves two liquor-license applications forward, citing ALU conditions and no protests

The committee unanimously moved two on-sale general liquor-license items to the full Board as committee reports with positive recommendations. Officer Freins presented PCN reports for both Nihon SF Inc. (proposed Nihon Whiskey Lounge at 1779 Folsom Street) and Club Allure LLC (AJ's Bar at 1250 Market Street). For both applications SFPD reported zero letters of protest, location-level ALU approval and recommended conditions: no audible noise beyond the licensed area, active monitoring to prevent loitering, litter-control responsibilities, and two licensed uniform security guards when live entertainment is provided.
Khaled Dejani, representing Nihon SF Inc., described Nihon Whiskey Lounge as an upscale Japanese venue that opened in 2005, shuttered during COVID and is now preparing to reopen and rehire staff. "We used to employ about 75 people... Starting this year, we are getting back, reopening our operations," Dejani said. For Club Allure, owner Ejaz Syed described pandemic losses, $75,000 of investment to prepare a new location and said planning and health departments have approved the location.
With no public protest and SFPD conditions in place, committee members voiced support and moved both items forward to the full Board. The clerk recorded the motions as approved with two ayes and Chair Stephanie excused; the resolutions will be included on the full Board agenda.
