Supervisors approve DA grant to fund restitution specialist

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Subcommittee on May 22 approved a resolution authorizing the District Attorney—s Office to contract for and accept up to $256,974 from the California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board for a project titled the Criminal Restitution Compact.
Jackie Ortiz of the District Attorney—s Office described the restitution specialist role as a liaison among victims, the state and the district attorney—s office to assist prosecutors with imposing fines and related court orders. Ortiz said the grant has been awarded annually in the past and that the current award is expected to cover a three-year period.
There were no public comments on the item and committee members asked no follow-up questions. The committee moved the resolution forward and approved it without objection. The action will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on June 4, 2013, unless otherwise stated.
