Committee adopts AB 361 findings to continue remote meetings for 30 days

Chair Supervisor Myrna Melgar moved the committee to "adopt these findings" under AB 361 so the Board and its committees could "continue to meet remotely," citing the ongoing state of emergency and continuing recommendations to promote social distancing. Deputy City Attorney Jensen confirmed the item appeared on the online agenda and cleared the committee to take the voice vote.
After a brief public comment period on the findings (no callers spoke on this item), the clerk took roll. Supervisors Aaron Peskin, Dean Preston and Myrna Melgar each voted aye and the motion passed 3‑0.
Under AB 361, a legislative body may meet remotely during a declared state of emergency if it makes limited findings that remote meetings are necessary and public health guidance continues to recommend social distancing. Melgar said the full Board will consider a similar findings motion the next day to activate the authority for the next 30 days.
The committee did not amend the findings. The Board’s next formal consideration of the findings is scheduled for Oct. 5, 2021.
