The Rules Committee on Sept. 16 appointed seven members to the Urban Forestry Council, set terms beginning Nov. 18, 2024, and granted residency waivers for two seats.
The Urban Forestry coordinator read the list of applicants and described their qualifications. Appointees included Morgan Vaisse/Favell (open-space manager at UCSF), Carla Nagy (Friends of the Urban Forest veteran), Pamela Nagel (registered consulting arborist and ISA-certified arborist), Edgar Flores (current council member and community organizer), Carolyn/Caroline Scanlon (program manager, Friends of the Urban Forest), Joshua Klipp (attorney and certified disability-access specialist), and Antonio Moreno (nonprofit restoration work). Several applicants spoke about priorities including increasing council visibility, implementing mandates in the Environmental Code (Chapter 12, section 12.03), youth engagement, climate resilience and equitable urban canopy growth.
Supervisors moved to appoint the listed candidates and add residency-waiver approvals for seat 1 and seat 5; the motion passed without objection (Member Peskin and Vice Chair Safaei voted aye). The appointees will be forwarded to the full Board of Supervisors for confirmation.
