Committee sends Health Code amendments on massage permits to Board with positive recommendation
Summary
An ordinance amending the Health Code to exempt certain massage permit applicants from fingerprinting (if licensed by the California Massage Therapy Council), to remove some notification/inspection requirements, and to allow keyless exterior locks with DPH approval was sent to the Board of Supervisors with a positive committee recommendation.
The Public Safety & Neighborhood Services Committee voted on May 10 to send an ordinance amending the San Francisco Health Code to the Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation. The ordinance would exempt applicants for certain massage establishment permits from fingerprinting requirements if the applicant holds a valid license from the California Massage Therapy Council, remove some departmental notification and inspection requirements for applications and ownership changes, allow exterior keyless locks upon Department of Public Health (DPH) approval and require provision of access codes to DPH, and clarify nuisance enforcement for massage practitioner violations.
The clerk noted the item was first heard April 27 and returned with amendments. There were no public speakers for the item; Chair Catherine Stephanie moved to send the ordinance to the full Board with the committee’s recommendation and the motion passed unanimously.
The ordinance will be placed on the Board agenda for further consideration.
