Committee approves amended airport pre-security camera policy for Board review

The Rules Committee recommended an amended airport surveillance technology policy governing pre-security cameras, adding cameras on the air train, employee/occasional public shuttle buses and the live streaming of BART CCTV at the airport.
Guy Clark, IT cybersecurity governance and compliance director at the airport, said the policy’s core uses remain live monitoring, recording for incident review, footage review for investigations and the provision of footage to law enforcement or other authorized parties upon request. Clark noted a data-sharing update: the airport cannot currently perform automatic face redaction on camera footage, so the policy language was adjusted accordingly. He also clarified that the Port and Airport do not own BART cameras or footage; the airport can request footage from BART but cannot record or unilaterally access BART’s custody.
The committee recorded no public comment on this item and voted to recommend the amended policy to the full Board.
Next steps: The policy will be considered by the Board; procedures for footage requests and data-handling practices will be implemented by airport staff in coordination with partners, including BART and law enforcement.
