Committee approves forwarding two-year extension request for SFpark Serco contract

The Government Audit and Oversight Committee on June 14 considered a staff request to extend Serco Incorporated’s contract for the SFpark pilot by two years to allow the project to meet a federal 24‑month data requirement and finish a citywide meters RFP. Sonali, the project presenter, told supervisors the program has struggled with delayed funding, technology problems including non‑performing parking sensors that required vendor replacement, coordination across multiple vendors, and only has about 10 months of usable data so far.
Sonali said those factors have caused schedule slippage and that without an extension the city could be in violation of federal terms requiring 24 months of data. The extension request is intended to give staff time to complete data collection and use SFpark findings to inform a new RFP for meters citywide.
There were no public speakers on the item. Vice Chair Sean Ellsburn asked for any comments; none were raised. Without objection, the committee directed that the item be sent forward as a committee report for consideration by the full Board of Supervisors.
