Committee forwards PostScript Collective liquor-license transfer for 499 Jackson

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 2-0 to forward a resolution recommending that PostScript Collective LLC be granted a Type 21 off-sale general liquor license for 499 Jackson.

Acting Chair Supervisor Matt Dorsey introduced the motion to prepare a resolution finding that the license would serve the public convenience or necessity and asked that it be forwarded to the full Board as a committee report for consideration on 01/31/2023.

The discussion centered on the ABC Liaison Unit report. Officer Salinson told the committee the application drew "0 letters of protest, 0 letters of support," that the site is in Plot 140 (a high-crime area) and Census Tract 61101 (high saturation), and that the liaison unit "recommends approval with the following condition, that the petitioner actively monitor the area under their control in an effort to prevent the loitering of persons on any property adjacent to the licensed premise," referencing ABC form 253.

Representatives for the applicant, including counsel Justin Zucker and Ben McLaughlin of PostScript Collective, described the project as a specialty grocery that will sell wine and beer, roast coffee on-site, and "activate a space that hasn't really done anything in about 3 years." McLaughlin said the business hopes to "serve wine and beer" and "create a good buzz" in the neighborhood.

There were no public commenters for the item. After the brief presentation and report, the committee voted, with Supervisors Joel Engadio and Matt Dorsey recorded as voting "aye," and no recorded opposition.

The committee action forwards the clerk-prepared resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation; any final licensing determination will be made by the full Board and by California's Alcoholic Beverage Control process.
