Supervisor Asha Safai presented an ordinance (item 4) to amend the Environment and Public Works Code to require transporters of construction and demolition debris to obtain temporary or annual permits and for processing facilities to meet updated registration conditions. Safai said the proposal has been in development for two years and that remaining issues involve standardizing practices at transfer and waste stations (some out of city) and ensuring proper weighing and enforcement systems.
She asked the committee to continue the item so staff could work with the Department of the Environment and Department of Public Health on a larger amendment package. After no callers were in the public‑comment queue for this item, Supervisor Peskin moved to continue the ordinance to May 24; the motion passed unanimously on roll call (Peskin, Preston, Melgar voted aye).
The committee clerk noted that if continued to May 24 the item must be heard on that date. The committee then adjourned.
