The Government Audit and Oversight Committee on Jan. 12, 2012 advanced an ordinance amending the Administrative Code to update job classifications.
Mary Howe of the Department of Human Resources summarized the item as an update to a 2010 filing that removes classifications no longer in use and creates new ones where needed. Howe said the changes reflect classifications with no incumbents and administrative housekeeping to align the code with current practice.
During public comment Douglas Yap raised concerns about whether certain worker classes are adequately represented by unions and urged future consideration of protections against retaliation for those who speak out. Following the presentation Supervisor Sean Ellsburn moved to forward the ordinance with a recommendation to the full Board; the motion was taken without objection and the item will proceed to the Board of Supervisors.
No roll-call vote was recorded in the transcript; the committee's action at the meeting was procedural advancement to the full board.
