Committee backs $2.98 million CPUC/PG&E grant to expand city energy-efficiency programs

Guillermo Rodriguez of the Department of the Environment described the grant as a one-time augmentation to accelerate approximately 450 business and multifamily projects with an expected savings of about 3 megawatts of energy. He said program work includes lighting retrofits (LEDs), thermal and natural gas projects, and measures tailored to commercial, small supermarket and large multifamily sites. Rodriguez cited local examples of past projects and said contractors are often small, local firms that benefit from program work.
Rodriguez estimated that residents and businesses have saved a little over $20,000,000 from prior programs and urged committee acceptance of the grant. There were no public speakers on this item. The committee moved the grant acceptance forward as a committee report to the Board (taken without objection).
