DPH to accept $109,492 CalEPA grant to support electronic hazardous-materials reporting

Sue Kohn, program manager for the Hazardous Materials and Waste Program at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, told the committee the CalEPA grant—$109,492—would support tasks to facilitate a transition to electronic reporting for regulated businesses. Kohn said the funds come from fees collected from regulated businesses and are redistributed through CalEPA’s grant process.
She said the grant would be used for training regulated businesses and purchasing field computers for staff so they can prepare notices of violation and inspection reports in the field, which the department expects will improve inspection efficiency.
There was no budget analyst report on the item. Public comment was opened and closed with no speakers. Supervisor Avalos moved to send the item forward with recommendation; the motion carried without objection.
Next steps: The resolution will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for approval, after which DPH will implement the grant-funded activities.
