Committee recommends $750,000 state grant for Glen Canyon Creekside Loop Trail

The Budget and Finance Committee on Thursday recommended that the Board of Supervisors accept and expand a $750,000 Habitat Conservation Fund grant for the Glen Canyon Creekside Loop Trail.
Tony Moran, grant manager for Recreation and Parks, told the committee he was “requesting your recommendation to the Board of Supervisors to accept and expand the Habitat Conservation Fund grant for the Glen Canyon Creekside Loop Trail” and to authorize the director of real estate to record a memorandum of unrecorded grant agreement for the trail portion of the park.
Moran said the project grew from community meetings held in 2010–11 with the Trust for Public Land and that the concept plan, which includes the Creekside Loop, was approved by the Recreation and Park Commission in August 2011. He said the grant funds will be used mostly to improve the existing Creekside Trail and that the State Park grant requires the grantee to provide public access and recreational use for 20 years.
Officials expect the bid and award process “later this year or in early 2013” with construction scheduled for spring 2013, Moran said.
There was no public comment on the item. A committee member moved to forward the resolution with recommendation; the motion carried without objection.
The item will go to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
