Committee approves amendment to Laguna Honda construction management contract; budget analyst says no net budget increase

The Budget and Finance Committee on Monday agreed to send a resolution to the full Board of Supervisors authorizing modification 16 to the construction management services contract with Cooper Pegueta Management Incorporated for the Laguna Honda Hospital replacement program.

John Thomas, project manager for the program, said the amendment increases the contract to provide construction management, cost estimating, scheduling and administrative support for the remodel of the hospital’s H Wing, which he said is expected to be completed by spring of next year. Thomas also noted modification 15 had been approved administratively and that the current amendment reflects the combined changes.

The committee’s budget analyst reported the actual increase would be $111,003.12 and that “there would be no increase to the Laguna Honda hospital budget” because the funds were previously budgeted and would be reprogrammed to cover the additional cost. The analyst recommended a technical amendment to correct the not-to-exceed amount in the resolution; the department agreed to that correction.

Chair Carmen Shui opened public comment; none was offered. The committee moved to accept the budget analyst recommendations and send the item forward as amended “without objection.” The item is scheduled to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on 10/16/2012, according to the clerk.

Next steps: The matter will go to the Board of Supervisors with the budget analyst’s technical amendment reflected in the resolution.
