Committee approves sending Royal Baking Company landmark designation to full Board

The ordinance would amend the Planning Code to add the property to Article 10’s landmark list and affirms the findings required for a designation. The clerk told residents that public comment was available by phone but none were queued; the committee then voted in favor of sending the item to the full board on a 3–0 roll call (Preston, Safaei, Peskin).
Why it matters: Landmark status can protect historic architecture and guide future permitting and alterations. Supporters on the committee credited local preservation groups and Planning Department staff for their work on the nomination.
What’s next: The ordinance will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda for Dec. 8 unless otherwise stated. If approved by the Board, the designation would impose review requirements under the Planning Code for proposed changes to the building.
