Committee recommends consolidation of two North Beach storefronts for SFPD use

The Land Use and Transportation Committee on July 6 recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve an amendment to the Planning Code allowing the consolidation of two ground-floor storefronts in the North Beach Special Use District for existing public facility uses associated with the San Francisco Police Department.
Chair Aaron Peskin described the measure as “a narrowly crafted piece of legislation to allow the merger of two storefronts” leased to Central Station and said the consolidation would provide flexibility for inspectors and operations during the COVID-19 period. Peskin also told the committee the property includes 34 single-resident-occupancy hotel rooms above the storefronts and that the city has expressed interest in purchasing the property.
Peskin said the Planning Commission waived its 90-day review period under the charter and that there was no neighborhood opposition. There were no callers for public comment on the item during the remote meeting.
On a motion by Chair Peskin to send the item to the full Board with a recommendation, Supervisors Dean Preston, Asha Safai and Aaron Peskin all voted "aye," producing a unanimous committee recommendation.
The committee record indicates the item is expected to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda for July 14, 2020.
