Committee urges city support for SFUSD Class of 2021 events, proposes gift boxes and outdoor options

Presenters included Viva Mogi (SFUSD director of policy & planning), who said the district wants to ensure each graduating senior can receive one school graduation (socially distanced) and asked for city help securing outdoor sites, production and streaming; Nate Ford (SF Rebels) urged help for athletes to produce recruiting highlight videos; Phil Ginsburg (Rec & Park) said parks could be used consistent with health orders and offered staff photographers and possible sites; Maria Hsu (Department of Children, Youth and Their Families) described CBO partnerships that provide videography and photography; Cheryl Davis (Human Rights Commission) highlighted outreach lessons and distribution networks.
Committee members expressed broad support and directed staff to follow up on videography, photographers, gift‑box logistics and coordination with DPH on allowable outdoor events; the committee moved the resolution to the Board with a positive recommendation (3–0). Supervisor Marr later accepted a small clarifying amendment to add Rec & Park explicitly to the list of departments urged to coordinate and the amended resolution was forwarded to the Board.
