San Francisco committee advances 2019 carry‑forward building code amendments to full Board

The Land Use and Transportation Committee on Oct. 28 advanced six ordinances to update San Francisco’s local building‑code amendments to align with the 2019 California Building Standards and related codes.
Michelle Yu, manager of the Department of Building Inspection’s technical services division, told the committee the proposed ordinances carry forward San Francisco’s 2016 amendments and mainly adjust chapter numbers to match state changes. "Other than that, you are not to expect any substantial changes in those ordinances for the carry forward and enactment of the San Francisco 2019 code amendments," Yu said.
Yu said the updates are part of the triennial adoption cycle required by the California Building Standards Commission and that the 2019 San Francisco amendments would take legal effect on Jan. 1, 2020. She described the package as covering the building, residential, existing building, electrical and mechanical codes and San Francisco‑specific amendments.
With no public comment, Chair Aaron Peskin moved to forward items 1–5 to the full Board of Supervisors with recommendation and item 6 as a committee report; the committee took those actions "without objection."
Next steps: the items will appear on the Nov. 5 Board of Supervisors agenda for final hearings, per the clerk’s statement.
